Helgeson Scientific Services, the first to offer mobile whole body counting services, has the experience, operators, equipment, and evaluation resources to meet the needs of customers who desire and need whole body counting, but lack the need to have one permanently at their disposal. It also fills the need when outages require whole body counting that exceeds the existing capacity of the installed whole body counter.

Each mobile unit offers an attractive office environment with private dressing areas. All units have complete data processing capabilities as well as provisions for data link to our offices in California. Whether for routine or emergency counting, no one can match Helgeson’s response time in the delivery of whole body counting equipment to your doorstep. A Helgeson mobile unit is always within 24 hours of any nuclear facility in the United States. All units contain all the documents for the most recent calibration verification. Strict Quality Control records are maintained on all counting and are presented to the customer in a formal report which has been reviewed by a Certified Health Physicist. Small volume users now can conveniently use whole body counting as part of a routine bioassay program. Zero results provide important data in the event of workmen’s compensation claims.

No matter where your personnel are located, our mobile-based whole body counting service is an economical, flexible way to meet your whole body counting requirements. Whether you need entry/exit counts, regular or intermittent counts, long- or short-term usage, there are a range of options from which you may choose:

  1. Need radium, thorium or mixed fission product counts? Then our Do-It-Yourself diagnostic lay-down counter, such as Unit 4, is the preferred instrument of choice.
  2. Is external contamination a question or problem? Then the HECM or Mini-HECM will fill the bill.
  3. Do you need to consider both internal AND external contamination? Stand-up in vivo counters like our Quicky 4 (NaI(Tl) detectors), Quicky 5 (HPGe detector) and HECM 6 (NaI(Tl) and gas flow proportional counters) are available.
  4. Trailers can be configured with a variety of counters for use at your site. Or our traveling mobile unit can be scheduled to stop at your facility.
  5. For measurement of low-level emitters such as uranium, americium and plutonium, HSS Mobile Unit 3 can accommodate the most rigorous whole body counting requirements. This unit also is equipped with a Do-It-Yourself Whole Body Counter, offering full-range diagnostic capabilities.
  6. HSS also offers radium, thorium and mixed fission product counting services at our corporate offices in California and our east coast office in New Jersey. Appointments can be easily scheduled by just making a phone call. Emergency response requests also can be accommodated.
