Written by his father:
Pete enlisted in the US Navy (rather than being drafted into the Army) during the Viet Nam War conflict. He signed up for a 6 year hitch because it would provide him with excellent training in Electronics. I was fortunate to be traveling in Tennesee on Pete's graduation from the one-year course that he had been taking at the Navy Base near Memphis, and attended his graduation excersizes. The Base Commander met me before the ceremonies started and told me: "Mr. Helgeson, your son missed equaling the all time high score at this base by 0.01 points. You should be very proud of him (and we are !!).

After leaving the Navy, he moved to Eureka, California, and worked with his brother Steve in the guitar manufacturing business. A review article on Moonstone Guitar said that the workmanship on the internal electronics could be compared to a top-quality Swiss watch.

Since 1988 Pete has worked in his Father's business, Helgeson Scientific Services, responsible for the Electronic Engineering Research.
