This is George Stanley HELGESON at about age 25. |
Born: 13-January-1892 Where: Fair Haven,Stearns,Minnesota,USA
Died: 23 September 1968 Where:Des Moines,King,Washington,USA
Buried: 25 September 1968, Washington Memorial Gardens, just north of the Sea-Tac Airport. Both he and Mother are buried in the shade of a tree with a view of Mount Ranier.
Medical History:
Dad had his first heart attack in the summer of 1962. Death also came in the form of a heart attack.
Education:
Dad attended the College of Puget Sound, playing football as one of the sports. (He wasn't there on a football scholarship!.) He also worked on a lumber crew. He operated the "donkey engine," a device for hoisting logs. It was these earnings that allowed him to go to college.
He also attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Dad used to tell of his leaving for Chicago: Dad and Mom were at the train station in Wenatchee and, since it is a public place, Mother shook hands with Dad. He never forgot that and would say "That's just like those Lewis girls !" I don't know if that "tradition" is present in the other Lewis girls.

Dad was a Methodist minister for 27 years. The family moved from Duluth, Minn. to Seattle, Washington in Fall of 1943. He then went into the "House Trailer" business. He started with his sister, Grace Dennis, at Dennis Trailer Mart. Then he bought Central Trailer Exchange in 1944. He bought the first lots on Pacific Highway South in 1946, and started Seattlite Trailer Mfg Co. 1946 thru 1949.In 1949 he moved his business and his family to the property at 14433 Pacific Highway South (Hwy 99).
When John got out of the US Coast Guard, he worked for Dad while going to Seattle Pacific College. Paul joined the company in 1956, and Bob in 1959. Dad and Mother retired from active management of Central Trailer Exchange, Inc., in about 1960. They traveled in their Airstream with the Wally Byam Airstream Club thru Mexica, and Canada. Dad died in September 1968.
