Helge Aslagen Asselson

August 26, 2005

This is an addendum by Lewis Helgeson. The following paragraph was written by my brother, Paul Helgeson, and contains some in accuracies based on information that Paul was given which later was found to be inaccurate. Lewis, Bob, John, and Paul are the grandsons of Stanley stand grim Helgeson, the second son of anHelge Aslagen Asselson. The paragraph after this was written by Diane Tollefson, the great-granddaughter of Helge Aslagen Asselson.. She and her mother have documented much of the genealogy of the sons of Helge Aslagen Asselson.

The sons of Helge Aslagen Asselson (father of Stanley Helgeson), changed their
names to Helgeson, Berg, or Bergson, when they moved from Norway to Minnesota &
North Dakota, U.S.A.. I had been told that they came from the Island of
Helgoberg. Thus the HELGEson, BERG, or BERGson. I cannot find an island named
Helgoberg in my Encyplodea Britannica Atlas. From reserch done by Verda
Thometz, Helge Aslagen Asselson was born in Gol, Norway, an inland farming
village in the Hollindag valley, about 100 miles from Oslo.
I do know that brothers of Stanley Helgeson, took the names of Helgeson, Berg
and Bergson. (See family group chart MRIN # 23). From Verda's research NOTES
for the sons who changed their names to BERG, she says; "Karl Berg, the son of
Helge Aslagen Asselson, took the name BERG, from the name of the farm in
Norway." The same NOTE for Engebret Helgeson BERG.
Helge Aslagen Asselson, worked as a shoemaker and cooper.
